2016 - Present
In 2016, Robert A. Aird, Inc. completed a major historic plaster restoration at the Corcoran School of the Arts & Design in Washington, DC, a landmark Beaux-Arts building originally constructed in 1897.
The primary scope included restoration of the building’s most prominent architectural features, including large decorative ceilings, ornamental plasterwork, and complex elements such as the main dome and column details. This work required a high level of craftsmanship to repair and replicate intricate historic profiles while maintaining the building’s original design intent.
Our team addressed a range of existing conditions, including deterioration, previous repairs, and localized damage, utilizing traditional plastering techniques and historically appropriate materials to ensure consistency with the original construction.
Following the completion of the primary restoration, Robert A. Aird, Inc. has continued to perform ongoing maintenance and repair work at the Corcoran on an as-needed basis. Our continued involvement reflects both the quality of the original restoration and the client’s trust in our ability to maintain and preserve the building’s historic plaster systems over time.
