In 2023, Robert A. Aird, Inc. completed a comprehensive EIFS (Exterior Insulation and Finish System) restoration of the former Renaissance Washington, D.C. Hotel, now rebranded as the Westin Washington, D.C. Downtown. This extensive exterior renovation was part of an $80 million transformation led by Sunstone Hotel Investors and Marriott International, aimed at modernizing the 807-room property with a wellness-focused design.
Aird’s scope encompassed the entire exterior envelope, including the main façade, the China Garden courtyard, and the Porte Cochere. The restoration involved removing and replacing deteriorated EIFS components, upgrading moisture management systems, and applying new finishes that aligned with the hotel's biophilic design elements inspired by Potomac stone and natural textures.
The project demanded meticulous coordination to ensure that the new EIFS seamlessly integrated with the hotel's updated architecture, enhancing both aesthetic appeal and thermal performance.
