In 2023, Robert A. Aird, Inc. completed a comprehensive EIFS façade restoration at the Westin Washington, DC Downtown, formerly the Renaissance Hotel. This large-scale renovation was part of an $80 million repositioning of the 807-room hospitality property, executed in partnership with HITT Contracting.

Aird’s scope included restoration and modernization of existing EIFS assemblies across multiple elevations, including the main façade, China Garden courtyard, and porte cochere. The project presented significant challenges, including deteriorated substrates, compatibility issues between legacy façade systems, and complex access constraints within a dense downtown environment.

Through proactive coordination, technical problem-solving, and close collaboration with the project team, Aird developed and implemented solutions that maintained schedule, met performance requirements, and supported the overall renovation goals.

The restoration included removal and replacement of compromised EIFS components, upgrades to air and moisture management detailing, and installation of new finishes aligned with the project’s biophilic design vision. The completed façade enhances durability, thermal performance, and the building’s modern architectural identity.
