Foreman

A Foreman is responsible for ensuring that everything goes smoothly at a construction site. They are responsible for being the point of contact between the construction workers and supervisors within our company and other trades including the general contractor. Leadership skills and extensive experience have earned a Foreman the ability to direct the work of others and make quick decisions. You must be well-organized and encourage and promote safety and quality above everything else.

Robert A. Aird, Inc. is a building enclosure contractor located in Frederick, MD with jobsites located primarily in the Baltimore, Washington, Northern Virginia metro area since 1975. Generally, our scopes include EIFS (Exterior Insulating Finish Systems), stucco, plaster, air/water barriers, deck coatings, carpentry, flashing, paint, and sealants.  


Foreman Job Description 

A Foreman is responsible for ensuring that everything goes smoothly at a construction site. They are responsible for being the point of contact between the construction workers and supervisors within our company and other trades including the general contractor. Leadership skills and extensive experience have earned a Foreman the ability to direct the work of others and make quick decisions. You must be well-organized and encourage and promote safety and quality above everything else. 

Primary Responsibilities and Skills: 

- Manage the project site daily. 

  • At work every day, on time, and if time off is needed give advanced notice so your absence can be covered. 

  • Reliable vehicle to get you to and from jobsites.  

- Provide leadership for the crew. 

  • Assign tasks for crew members each day. 

  • Provide them with durations for each task and make sure they meet deadlines. 

  • Delegate responsibilities as needed to maintain a productive project.  

- Act as primary contact between crew, Supers, and Project Managers. 

- Follow instructions given by Project Manager and Superintendent.  

  • Communication is key here. There may be directions given for a certain reason that should be relayed properly between crew and management.  

  • If any direction that is given is unclear you must ask questions.  

- Work with Project Manager, Super, and crew to meet the budgets and schedules provided for a profitable project.  

  • Start up meetings for each job should be taking place so you understand what to do. Make sure you have all documents needed. Review and read through the foreman’s book.  

- Coordinate with crew members as well as subcontractors on the project to make sure the work ahead is done correctly and completely.  

- Resolve conflicts as they develop on jobs and get assistance from Supervisors as needed.  

- Provide leadership and guidance to younger less experienced crew members.  

- Organize and inventory the company’s supplies (materials, tools, and equipment) needed to complete the scope of work. Know what is needed well ahead of time so we don’t run out. 

- Provide paperwork documentation to the office including: 

  • Daily Foreman’s Report 

  • Time Sheets w/ accurate cost codes 

  • Daily Safety Checks 

  • Production Reporting 

- Understand the cost code process and how inaccurate reporting affects the company in a negative way.  

- Know and enforce all OSHA rules and regulations as well as the General Contractors’ specific safety requirements.  

- Lead weekly toolbox talk meetings to ensure continued education and safety refreshers for employees.  

- Be able to maintain and inspect personal protective equipment for yourself and the crew.  

- Know scaffold systems (system and frame), parts and pieces, how to erect and dismantle. 

Must abide by all OSHA requirements.  

- Knowledge of swing stage systems, parts and pieces, how to erect and dismantle. Must abide by all OSHA requirements.  

- Maintain a clean and organized jobsite.  

- Understand the critical systems and details specific to the project. 

- Be able to read and understand plans/blueprints and shop drawings. 

- Extensive knowledge in EIFS and Stucco systems. 

- Advanced knowledge or at least intermediate in other scopes such as: 

  • Caulk – removal and install  

  • Air and water barrier – self adhered and fluid applied   

  • Plaster 

  • Acoustic Plaster 

  • Stone 

  • Concrete repair  

  • Flashing – bend and install  

  • Carpentry 

  • Deck Coatings 

  • Paint – brush, roll, spray  

  • Artistry (wood grain, metallic finish, ornamental plaster) 

- Be able to speak, write, and read English as required in the USA by most General Contractors. Documentation such as product data, safety guidelines, etc. may not always be available in another language.  

- Understand construction terminology.  

- Intermediate to advanced math skills that apply to the construction industry. 

  • Basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division  

  • Measurements – able to use and read a tape measure, yard stick, etc.  

  • Geometry – level, straight, right-angled, etc. 

  • Ratios – mixing to keep the ratio consistent throughout the project 

- Meetings are vital to the success of our company and we expect a Foreman to attend.

Pay Rate: 

Hourly - $19-$27 per hour 

**pay rate is based on experience, certifications, references, etc.
