Frederick Arts Council

1 N. Market St

2022

In 2022, our team undertook a comprehensive plaster restoration project for the Frederick Arts Council, previously a PNC bank, located at 1 N Market St, Frederick, Maryland. This building, rich in historical significance, required meticulous attention to detail to preserve its architectural integrity.
The mezzanine ceiling, a focal point of the Art Center, had suffered from years of wear and previous unsympathetic repairs. Our artisans carefully removed deteriorated sections and employed traditional plastering techniques to restore the ceiling's original design. This process involved matching historical textures and finishes, ensuring that the restored ceiling seamlessly blended with the existing architecture.
The building's interior featured several columns with ornate capitals that had been damaged over time. We meticulously repaired these elements, sculpting missing or damaged sections by hand to match the original designs. Our team used historically appropriate materials and methods to ensure the longevity and authenticity of the restoration.
Throughout the project, we collaborated closely with the Frederick Arts Council to ensure that our restoration efforts aligned with their vision for the Art Center as a hub for creativity and community engagement. The successful completion of this project not only preserved a piece of Frederick's architectural heritage but also enhanced the functionality and aesthetic appeal of the Art Center for future generations.
