Aird, Inc. was selected to execute a comprehensive exterior stucco restoration and enhancement for a unique custom home in Great Falls, Virginia. The homeowner envisioned a timeless, aged appearance with authentic character, including faux brick spalling details inspired by historic masonry—and we delivered on every aspect.
Our scope began with the rental, delivery, and safe rigging of scaffolding systems, followed by meticulous protection of adjoining materials to prevent damage during construction. We fully removed the existing stucco, assessing and replacing sheathing and insulation as needed on a time-and-materials basis, working in tandem with the project carpenter for structural elements.
A new high-performance air and water barrier system was installed, with all penetrations and board joints sealed for long-term durability. We integrated new copper head and sill flashings into this system, ensuring superior moisture protection.
The façade was built out using Type 1 EPS insulation applied in vertical adhesive ribbons to enable drainage. Reinforcement included high-impact fiberglass mesh up to 6' AFG in high-traffic areas for added durability.
A four-ounce fiberglass mesh embedded in base coat was applied throughout the EIFS, followed by the creative highlight of the project—custom faux spalling to reveal "exposed" brick beneath the stucco. These details were artistically placed per plan markups in collaboration with the client.
To complete the finish, we applied Sto Freeform Lotusan texture in a selected standard color across all exterior walls.
