Forrester Construction

Hillsdale College - Kirby Center

2025

At Hillsdale – Kirby College, Robert A. Aird, Inc. was engaged to perform a comprehensive exterior stucco scope that combined new construction with selective patch and repair, requiring careful coordination between modern performance requirements and the existing campus architecture. The project demanded both technical precision and visual continuity, as new exterior additions and repaired areas needed to blend seamlessly with surrounding structures.

Our scope included the installation of a 7/8-inch thick, fiber-reinforced cement stucco system with a continuous air and moisture barrier, designed to enhance durability, weather resistance, and long-term performance. Over DensGlass Gold sheathing, our team applied a fluid-applied air and weather barrier, followed by a code-compliant water-resistive barrier, galvanized self-furring metal lath, and cement stucco scratch and brown coats. The system was completed with a cementitious finish coat in a standard color and medium texture, providing a cohesive, refined appearance across the new exterior elevations.

In addition to the new construction work, Aird completed extensive patch and repair of existing stucco assemblies, requiring a different approach to ensure compatibility with existing finishes. These areas were repaired using the Senergy Stucco System with Senerflex Fine Finish, carefully blended to match adjacent surfaces and preserve visual consistency across the façade. This dual-scope approach—new installation alongside repair—required close attention to substrate conditions, transitions, and finish alignment.

For the new addition, the stucco system was installed using the LaHabra Stucco System with Santa Barbara Mission finish, selected to complement the architectural character of the campus while delivering a durable, high-performance exterior envelope. Maintaining uniformity between the LaHabra finishes and the repaired Senergy areas was a critical component of the project, achieved through meticulous surface preparation, material selection, and skilled craftsmanship.

Throughout the project, our team coordinated closely with other trades to ensure proper integration of air and moisture barrier components, flashing details, and substrate transitions. The result is a resilient exterior stucco assembly that not only meets modern performance standards but also enhances the overall aesthetic of the campus environment.

The Hillsdale – Kirby College project reflects Robert A. Aird, Inc.’s expertise in delivering complex stucco systems that balance durability, performance, and architectural continuity, particularly in educational settings where longevity and appearance are equally critical.
